Danny Yamashiro, recognized as “Hawaii’s evangelist… to the world” is the founder and president of Jesus Christ is Calling You Evangelistic Ministry, Inc. (JCCY).

How was Danny called to be an evangelist?

A living miracle, Danny has a sensational story to tell. God miraculously saved him from a deadly 400 foot fall off the famed Pali Ridge in Hawaii, at age 18. Through that experience, Danny’s attention turned to the Lord and in literal brokenness he surrendered his life to Christ. “I’ll go where you want me to go, I’ll be what you want me to be, I’ll say what you want me to say, I’ll do what you want me to do. If you, Lord, can make something out of a broken man like me, have your way.” Shortly after that, Danny was driving over the Pali Highway looking at the mountains that almost engulfed him, when the Lord spoke, “Danny. I saved you to go wherever I send you to tell people about the love, hope and purpose that is found through Jesus Christ.” Still a teen, he received his call.

Danny began to receive invitations to share his miraculous experience where he soon discovered God had uniquely gifted and anointed him to share the Gospel one on one, in small groups as well as with large audiences and lead people to faith in Christ.

Has Danny been serving solely as an evangelist since he was called at age 18?

No, he served for more than ten years in pastoral ministry. For three years he was a pastoral intern. Two years in southern California at Christ Presbyterian Church of Hollywood and one year at Kalihi Union Church in Honolulu, Hawaii. In 1998 he and his wife formed a team of leaders to plant Christ's Church at Kapolei with the Evangelical Free Church of America (EFCA) and five years later sent a team to plant Christ's Church at Aiea (EFCA). Through JCCY’s Paradise Global Mission partnerships 11 churches have been planted in Kenya, Philippines, Thailand, United States, and Uganda (as of 2007). He launched the Global Pastors Institute in the Philippines and has taught pastoral leadership in Thailand, India, Kenya and Brazil. Danny served as a senior pastor for eight years before turning his pastoral duties to his associate in order to give stronger focus to his evangelistic work.

Danny has written a number of books of which his most popular are Paradise Calls (96), Know Your Future Today (97), The Spiritual Reshaping of a Christian Hawaii (00), The Good Life (02), Building Blocks for Better Living (04). Others include: Jesus Christ in Every Biblical Book (92), The Open Air Evangelist (93), numerous booklets and brochures. His newest book Discover The Champion In You is to be released in the fall of 2007.

Yes, God's work of grace in Danny's life has been featured on more than 200 television stations in America, Canada and Asia through Dr. Pat Robertson's 700 Club and featured nation wide via radio on Dr. Billy Graham's Decision Today. Danny was also invited by Evangelist Greg Laurie, to share his testimony at the 1998 Harvest Crusade at the Aloha Stadium of which Laurie stated, "(Danny) If it were a baseball game, you would have hit a home run."

What schools did Danny attend? Where did he graduate from high school? College?

Danny attended Moanalua Elementary School for five years before being accepted to and graduating from the prestigious Iolani School in Honolulu. He graduated from Biola University (B.A.), Talbot School of Theology (M.A.), did Ph.D. studies through Trinity Theological Seminary and received his Doctorate in Biblical Studies from Andersonville Theological Seminary.

Has Danny received training from other well-known ministries?

Yes, he received training in crusade evangelism from the Billy Graham Association in Minnesota and the Luis Palau Association in Oregon. He studied preaching under Dr. Stephen F. Olford in Tennessee, evangelism leadership from Dr. Leighton Ford and pastoral ministries from Dr. Jack W. Hayford at the School of Pastoral Nurture in California. Danny was a delegate at historic gatherings for evangelists such as the National Conference for Itinerant Evangelists (NACIE `94) and Amsterdam 2000 both sponsored by the Billy Graham Association. He received Biola University’s distinguished Young Alumni Award in 2000. He was trained as an open air evangelist through the Open Air Campaigners where he preached to hundreds in busy thoroughfares of California and Hawaii for more than five years.
